December 1, 1988 Project Response will host a WORLD AIDS DAY, Service of Remembrance on Sunday December 1, 2024 at 2PM in the Pavilion at Project Response 378 N Babcock Melbourne FL 32958 On Display will be the 18 Project Response AIDS Memorial Quilts. The quilts are memorials made by friends and family to acknowledge a life lost too soon to AIDS (acquired Immune defiency Syndrome) The community is invited to submit names of loved ones lost, to Project Response in advance of December 1, to be read before and after the service. There will be a candle lighting vigil and guest speakers. The entire community is invited to attend. World AIDS Day was first recognized on December 1, 1988 and this will mark the 36th year. Project Response will recognize its 35th year of service to the community in 2025. This year’s theme is “Take the rights path” The world can end AIDS – if everyone’s rights are protected. With human rights at the center, with communities in the lead, the world can end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. The World Health Organization estimates around 42.3 million have died from AIDS. In the United States the number is 700,000. The states with the highest rate of HIV infection are Georgia, Louisiana and Florida.
